A picture expresses beyond words on paper.  A mood board showcases beyond ideas in the mind. As a tool used in guiding the design process, a mood board allows one to get insight of the design concepts, ideas and inspiration. They offer a glimpse of the style of a space and allow for flexibility and changes in the process of generating design decisions. This class will offer guidance on how to create your own mood boards for your living spaces. We will learn the benefits of using mood boards, how to identify the mood and emotion of your space, what to include in the mood board and how to translate the mood board ideas into actual design decisions. Participants will be encouraged to use a space in their own homes as a learning laboratory for testing and implementing the concepts that we learn. There is no prerequisite for this course, just a desire to make your space beautiful and meaningful.

Home accessories are the aspects of a room that we use as finishing details: lamps, tabletops, rugs, arranging pictures on the wall. There are many answers to each situation, and we will see lots of images as examples.  We’ll cover everything you need to know about hanging pictures – height; how to put several pictures together in arrangements based on their size and shape and the size/shape of the wall area as well as relating mat/frame colors.  Next we’ll cover lamps and height as a function of the purpose – task lighting, lighting a room, etc. And finally, we’ll cover rugs. What distance should they be from sofas/chairs? Should they be under the sofa or not? Join us for a lively review of all these home accessories.
