ClassGraphic Known by many as the “Jewel of the Meadowlands” the Sawmill WMA is the oldest protected wetlands area in the NJ Meadowlands District - and is home to a remarkable variety of birds, fish and other wildlife species. Before setting out in the company of experienced guides, students will receive a pre-paddle briefing conducted by a senior Hackensack Riverkeeper staffperson who will explain the organization’s ongoing work and mission; and speak about some of the species you are most likely to encounter while on the water and in the wetlands. PLEASE NOTE: There are 10 single kayaks & 2 tandem kayaks. These will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis upon arrival at Laurel Hill Park.
