In the last few decades, the rise of environmentally sustainable architecture has sought to remedy the mindlessness and wastefulness that has crept into modern building design and construction. But ‘green’ architecture is nothing new. In fact, it is very old, even ancient. Time honored methods of environmentally sustainable design and construction can be found in most cultures worldwide, often fashioning pragmatic and attractive solutions of the sort that we can still learn from and apply to this day.
