David Sanders, Tom Franklin, and Steve McCarthy are Montclair residents and teach at Montclair State University’s School of Communication and Media. For the past six years they’ve taken students on Global Reporting Trips to countries like Tunisia, Jordan, Malawi, and Greece. These trips are designed to teach students to report on social justice issues such as the Arab Spring (Tunisia), the importance of access to the arts for youth in marginalized communities (Jordan), hunger, poverty, sustainability (Malawi), and refugee migration (Greece). This March they are taking six students to Puerto Rico to report on the recovery from hurricane Maria. They will be showing video clips from their trips with students and discussing the impact that international experience has on students and young journalists.
