A book of short stories that helped inspire the 1997 Oscar-winning Roberto Benigni film, “Life Is Beautiful," has just come out in English. The award-winning translator, Jeanne Bonner, will be reading from the book, talking about the author, Edith Bruck, and discussing the book with Rabbi Julie Roth of Congregation Shomrei Emunah in Montclair. Bonner will be selling and signing books with Watchung Booksellers after the event.
The collection, "This Darkness Will Never End, was originally published in Italy, where Bruck settled after World War II, and where it is considered a Holocaust classic. This program is part of the library's commemoration of Jewish American Heritage Month.
