REGISTRATION ENDS MAY 15. NO REFUNDS. Oscar Wilde once said “To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance.” And to love Oscar Wilde's plays is the beginning of a lot of fun! Sometimes called the first celebrity, Wilde was an Irish wit, dandy and playwright who reached the pinnacle of success in Victorian England--only to become a social pariah after the revelation of his love affair with young Lord Alfred Douglas.
We'll learn all about Wilde's tempestuous life from a notable scholar of English literature, see a performance of his most irresistible comic play, and get together to discuss the production.
Thursday, May 29, 6:15 p.m.: Join Prof. Lee Behlman of Montclair State University at the Montclair Public Library to talk about Wilde's life, his cultural impact, and the play.
Sunday, June 1, 2 pm Drive yourself to the Kirby Shakespeare Theatre on Drew Campus in Madison for The Importance of Being Earnest, performed by The Shakespeare Theatre of NJ. (Orchestra seats.)
Monday, June 2, 6:15 p.m. Regroup at the library to discuss your thoughts and reactions to the production in a group moderated by Prof. Behlen.
