ClassGraphic Did you know that hundreds of years before DaVinci or Galileo, scientists and scholars of the Muslim world created flying machines, did advanced research on optics and explored perspective, compiled accurate sky charts for all the major cities of the world, developed navigational equipment like the astrolabe and sextant, explored advanced mathematics and algebra, did advanced medical surgeries and research, created highly accurate moving clocks, and more? The scholars of the Abbasid Golden Age, from the 900s to the 1500s and beyond, had access to texts from Greek, Persian, and Indian sources, and over centuries developed and spread this knowledge across large swaths of central Asia, the middle east, north Africa, Spain (al-Andalus during this time), and beyond.

Central to this Golden Age of Islamic Science was the House of Wisdom in Baghdad--was it a real place? A myth? Both? Find out more about this age and the people who were the first representatives of the global Renaissance.
