Giacomo Puccini is Italian opera's master of melody and melodrama. Blending beautiful music with romance and drama, his operas provide a musical feast that will entertain you, engage you, and emotionally move you - often to tears. The course will present two of his biggest hits: La Boheme and Tosca.
La Boheme - a tender romance about the lives and loves of struggling artists in the harsh winter of turn-of-the-20th Century Paris. Feel with them as they strive, in vain, against the cold, fate, and their emotions before a background of some of Puccini's most moving music.
Tosca - a tense, taut melodrama of opera diva, Floria Tosca, of Mario, her lover, a painter and political rebel, and of Scarpia, the evil and malicious police chief who is the thorn that pins them all to tragedy and death. Chill to scenes of interrogation and torture, attempted rape, murder, and suicide intensified by Puccini's thrilling music.
