« back to classes page
Abstract art did not come about by accident. It had everything to do with what was going on in Europe politically and socially in the beginning of the 20th century. It was the run-up to WWI, and an atmosphere of anarchy prevailed. Everything was thrown out the window, even art as it was supposed to be. Suddenly the old rules no longer applied! What happened gave us the artistic freedom we value even today.

Let's explore how abstract art was born in the midst of a world falling apart.
